Dear LOTS Newsletter Subscribers Three weeks have passed since we published the application forms for projects, workshops, companies and speeches on www.lots.ch. Over 20 submissions of interesting FOSS initiatives and exponents were received in this timeframe. Therefore, we feel that the program of the LOTS event on 18. February 2004 will be highly interesting for all of us. Many thanks go out to the people and institutions which already announced their interest in the LOTS event.
Nevertheless we would like to encourage you again to participate in one or more units of the LOTS program. All forms can be found online until 19. December 2003 on www.lots.ch/lots-participation.html.
Application regulations publishedThe final application regulations for the participation of FOSS projects and companies are online now on (www.lots.ch/Application_regulations.html). As announced at the LOTS Kickoff Meeting, we expect to finance the event through company participation. So FOSS projects are able to present themselves free of charge (as in: 2.1 of the regulations) and use the available infrastructure offered by the participating companies. Moreover, three innovative and promising projects will benefit of a so called wildcard, to promote their cause (as in: 2.6 of the regulations).
The admission fees for companies without a FOSS project is SFR1000.- but we would like to point out the fact that companies presenting their own FOSS project will benefit of special regulations (as in: 2.2,2.3 of the regulations). on the other hand we would like to facilitate the participation of startup companies and those that cannot afford the regular admission fee and offer them the possibility to apply as "Company with FOSS Project - Special" (as in: 2.4 of the regulations) at lower fees. The application will be accepted if another company can be found which carries the fees, or the project is one of the wildcards elected by the expert commission. The LOTS organisational committee (OC) seeks to promote closer relationships between companies working in the FOSS environment with this measure. Companies interested in supporting one of these applications are welcome to contact the LOTS OC.
English version of www.lots.ch onlineThanks to the work accomplished by Andreas Halter, the english version of www.lots.ch is online and can be accessed though www.lots.ch/index_en.html. We hope to encourage people from the french and italian speaking parts of Switzerland as well as those from abroad to participate and influence the LOTS event. We are glad to inform you that we have received a couple of submissions through the english site already.
We hope to receive more of those highly interesting submissions for the "Call for Participation" until friday next week when the application timeframe for these will be closed. Feel free to contact us with ideas and suggestions through info@lots.ch.
With kind regards, for the LOTS OK,
Matthias Stürmer
